One day the photographer and his girlfriend received a brochure. The title of the brochure read "Bird Show" and in the program was various workshops and presentations about different birds. So the two decided to go and drove down to Falsterbo where the event took place. They received permission from the local golf club to use their parking lot and already as they stepped out of the car there were people on a hill next to the car with telescopes pointed towards the sky. The ornithological society of Scania is based in and around the lighthouse of Falsterbo so that is where the two were headed. However, at the lighthouse there was no ongoing event. They carefully examined the pamphlet and realized that the location of the event was not written anywhere. So the photographer's girlfriend asked a passer-by if they knew where it was. They didn't seem to know anything about a bird show, however, they said that there was some event going on at the local campsite.
Before going there, the two went down to a nearby bird viewing point called "Owl Point." At this viewing point stood about maybe 12 people, all staring through their telescopes in silence which were pointed towards the sky. High in the sky were raptors, and right next to the viewing platform golfers swung their clubs which interrupted the peace in intervals with a small clunk sound. After standing by the viewing platform for a while the photographer and his girlfriend took a walk to the campsite.
They eventually arrived at the location. At the event, the majority of guests carried cameras with huge lenses attached to them.
"Bird watching and photography is connected. People who like to watch birds also like to take photos of them," the girlfriend explained.
At the event there were booths for both Nikon and Canon. The photographer went into the Olympus booth and looked at the photos that were hung onto the wall. They portrayed terns in a beautiful way. As he was enjoying the photos a man behind him blared out "Are you looking at my photos?"
"Yes, I am," he replied. Most photographers are full of themselves and therefore he did not really have any desire to speak with the man. "How did you take this picture?" he asked the man.
A smile came to the man's face and he brought out his camera and some photo gear and started to enthusiastically explain how he took his photos. You could see from the way he explained that he has a deep passion for wildlife photography. Unlike the typical photographer, he seemed like a nice person. The man handed over his business card to the photographer. The card read Jens Birch, and he also had a photography homepage.
Their conversation went on for a while and meanwhile the event closed for the day. Afterwards the photographer and his girlfriend went to the beach and strolled down the soft sand as they watched the sunset. On the way back they also stopped for a moment at Höllviken to enjoy the scenery.
