Yet again the photographer has returned to the Copenhagen Sakura Festival. This time the festival is a bit later in the month and the cherry blossom has already transcended into hazakura (a stage of sakura when fresh leaves have appeared). At least it didn't snow during the festival this year. The opening ceremony started with a short wadaiko performance followed by a singing performance and the presentation of the award for the year's poster.
Some pigeons hung around in the trees, ate the cherry flowers, and every now and then a naked flower would fall down and stick onto one of the visitors. Different workshops were hosted on the lawn and although they were spread out between the two days of the festival, most of them were held on Sunday. Around the park were plenty of stalls where they sold different things, and behind the food service area was another stall where they held workshops on manga, calligraphy and more.
If we turn over our attention to the main stage the performances were similar to last year. Just like previously there were a lot of different martial art performances, some traditional Japanese arts and the cosplay competition attracted a large crowd as usual. At some point the girls from the calligraphy workshop came on stage and performed calligraphy together with a violin performance. For the bonodori (Japanese dance), even the Danish news team showed up to capture the dance. In previous years the festival has been concluded with a big dance together with the performers, however, this year it was stated that the popularity and crowd of the festival has grown too big and they were no longer able to perform the dance together. Instead Saturday ended with some loud and frankly to say it, but bad music. However, on Sunday the statement had been retracted and the big crowd of visitors were able to dance all together.
