The destination for this post is Shitennoji. The temple is named after the four kings of Buddhism. It is written in the Nihon Shoki that the Prince Shoutoku carved the four kings which cased their clan to win the war against the Monobe clan, after which he established the temple.ref Construction of the temple started in the year 593 which is said to make it the oldest administrated temple in Japan. The buildings of the compound has been destroyed many times. For example, in 1934 the 5 story pagoda was toppled over in a typhoon. The tower was restored in 1940 just to be complete incinerated in an air raid in 1945.

As the photographer walked up towards the temple a few high school student came running past him. It was impossible to tell if they were enrolled in the high school affiliated with the temple but likely they were there on a school excursion. As the photographer approached the gate the five story pagoda rose towards the sky and in that moment he forgot that the tower has in the past been completely destroyed. The day was sunny and the five colors of Buddhism swayed gently in the soft wind within the four walls of the compound. The few visitors who were there walked along the yards pathways and it felt like nothing but time was moving. There was not a single footprint left in the gravel, and above the ancient architecture's color combination matched to the sky with harmony.

Outside the temple walls the area had the feeling of a public park with locals taking a stroll or bicycling through. In the north end there was a building from which the paint was peeling off which revealed the texture of the old wood beneath. In front of that building was ponds and lots of turtles gathered on top. Just like the turtles floated along in the water the atmosphere felt calm. East of the main complex there was a straight road all the way to the back, and besides a worker on a sky lift there wasn't a single person to be seen around the connecting buildings.

As the photographer was about to leave he found a cat on snooze in the shade. Nearby there was a facet gently dripping and the cat open its eyes for a moment to look at the photographer. When the photographer starting returning from the session the high school students nearby finished their school day and a stream of pupils streamed out of the school. The photographer joined the flow and together they were washed out into the city of Osaka.
