On a warm August day the photographer disembarks the train in Berlin Central Station. A city where some of Europe's historical turning events have played out, now famous for the remaining Berlin Wall. The city is built on the banks of The Spree which flows through the city. Under its bridges the pigeons coo next to the laid out mattresses of the homeless. A seagull ate on a dead bird that was floating in the water and shortly after the scene was captured a German homeless man greeted the photographer.
1.5 km east of the central station the Spree splits into two. The forming island is known as The Museum Island (Museumsinsel) and is a UNESCO world heritage site. The island has a bronze model of itself with braille inscribed on the top so that the visually impaired can read. On the island you can also find Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom) (not a heritage site). Furthermore, the Berlin TV Tower (Berliner Fernsehturm) stands visible in the background.
The further one walks down the river the more they notice the street art in the city. During the divided city, graffiti on the western side of the Berlin wall was common and it is known today to other street artists for its street art. Remaining parts of the Berlin Wall are still painted with graffiti.
East of the wall the river flows out into a peninsula. Besides a man sitting by the edge of the water the peninsula was calm. The man was strange and asked the photographer to take a photo of him. Then he uttered the address of a website. "Visit the website and find out the truth!" the man proclaimed. Shortly after, a scooter helmet that the man had fell into the water, but he didn't seem to mind. Nearby where the man was, was also a dead fish with a bottle stuck into its mouth which was baking in the heating sun. However, it cannot be concluded that it was the strange man who stuck the bottle into its mouth. Otherwise, alongside the river the ducks were sleeping peacefully. North of the peninsula are a bunch of boats parked and further up the water you can find kayaks for rent.
