It was a clear October day in 2019. A square in Kyoto had been turned into a marketplace lined with pale colored stands where they sold homemade crafts. At one of the stands they had honey neatly on display while another one sold children's chairs, and inside were slices of sweet roll cake on sale.
The market was bordered by a fence to a construction site. Their guardman occasionally peeked through the gap in the white gate, meanwhile a few kids took a stand in front of the fence as they looked at the excavator with excitement.
Children played among the lush vegetation in the park. A trio of boys looked for cicadas up a tree and after a failed swing at the cicada one of the boys showed a frog they had caught earlier to the photographer. They then continued their hunt for bugs. Meanwhile, nearby a girl was washing her feet in a stream of water without taking off her shoes. The wind swung the small waterfall a little. Afterwards a boy climbed up a rock and washed his socks in the stream.
At sunset the market was closed and the square was tidied up. The stalls were folded together and dragged away on carts. The train from Umekoji Park departed and the warm golden sunlight illuminated the inside in a shiny glow which brought out the silhouettes of the passengers seen in the windows.
Even after the sun set there were still a few teenagers playing on the lawn. Some high school students paused in their soccer game for a moment to pose for the camera. The sky became dark, the street lights turned on and the park became quiet.
